The Madison Correctional Facility in Madison, Ohio is situated on a 125 acres of land that requires a significant amount of evenly distributed light to enable proper visibility for security cameras and guard towers.

To flood the grounds of this correctional facility, we utilized a combination of 54 of SpecGrade’s AFL 600-watt floods with a 60°x60° beam and 28 asymmetrical beams of 85°x135° both at 5000K. The fixtures were placed on 100-foot high mast poles spaced strategically across the grounds.

The light output, at 100 footcandles, coupled with excellent uniformity, gave the correctional facility the light levels and quality of light they needed for this application. In addition to reducing their energy costs in illuminating this area by 50% over the metal halide lamps they were using before, they were also able to reduce their maintenance costs by a significant margin. Metal Halide lamps are good for 10,000-15,000 hours, requiring frequent change-outs and replacements, while the LED luminaires have an expected life of over 100,000 hours.
