FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
HIGHWAY (DOT)
FLORIDA, I-75, MANATEE COUNTY | SUMMER 2016
THE PROJECT
In the spring of 2016, SpecGrade LED was contacted by the Florida Department of Transportation about a stretch of Interstate Highway 75 that was in need of a lighting update that would improve visibility and save on energy costs. Of course, we were happy to deploy our brand new, state-of-the-art Navigator fixture for the job.
THE PROCESS
Our technicians changed out a quantity of two hundred and two (202) 1000W Metal Halide luminaires with the same number (202) of our own 600W SpecGrade LED Navigators for a high mast application.
The fixtures were mounted atop 75 foot poles using a 4000K color temperature and Type V optic distribution.
THE RESULT
The Florida DOT was very pleased with the installation. This stretch of state highway will save 400 watts for each of the 202 new fixtures for a total of over 80,000 watts of energy. The state is also saving tremendously on maintenance costs thanks to the easy-entry housing and long life expectancy of the Navigator fixtures. The illumination is clear and precise along this stretch of I-75 thanks to SpecGrade’s advanced optics, achieving beam uniformity and precise color rendering.
