KEENE FAMILY YMCA INDOOR SWIMMING POOL

NATATORIUM
KEENE, NH – JUNE 2015

THE PROJECT

The Family YMCA in Keene, NH serves men, women, and children of all ages, races, incomes, and religions throughout the Monadnock region with services and programs designed to increase health, teach life and leadership skills, and promote family unity. They contacted SpecGrade LED because they were looking to reduce energy costs and control the glare in their indoor natatorium.

THE PROCESS

We retrofitted the Keene YMCA with 18 SpecGrade LED AFL 600-watt floods with a 60°x135° beam at 4100K. Glare was minimized by aiming the luminaires at the ceiling for an indirect lighting approach while mounting them on fabricated stems. We treated each fixture with corrosion resistant paint and replaced the hardware with stainless steel hardware to hold up to the moisture that accumulates constantly in a swimming pool environment.

THE RESULT

In addition to reducing their energy costs for illuminating this area by 50% over the metal halide lamps they were using, the YMCA was also able to reduce their maintenance costs, thanks to the extended life of the LED fixtures. Metal Halide lamps are only good for 10,000-15,000 hours before requiring service while the LED luminaire have an expected life of over 100,000 hours.
